Spruce Pine Community Hospital
Spruce Pine Community Hospital is an 85-bed primary and secondary care facility. The hospital’s emergency department provides emergency care around the clock with twenty-four
hour physician and nurse coverage. In addition to a competent operating team and an obstetrics department, a personal touch is added to each delivery. Spruce Pine Community
Hospital provides specialty clinics on a regular basis. Physicians from Asheville and surrounding area come to the hospital to provide clinics in order for local residents to
receive specialized medical attention. Other health services of the hospital include ear nose and throat care, chemotherapy, a critical care unit, hand care, laboratory services,
nutritional services, podiatry care, physical therapy, respiratory therapy, radiographic imaging and urology. Additional services include aquatic therapy, cardio/pulmonary
rehabilitation, a dermatology clinic, MRI service, mobile X-ray service, occupational therapy, and sleep studies.
Additional medical services located on the hospital campus include home care, mental health, physical, and occupational therapy, Hospice, and a kidney dialysis center.
The Brian Center
The Brian Center is one hundred thirty-seven bed facility that offers long-term skilled care for its residents. Other services provided are intermediate nursing home care and physical, occupational, and speech therapy as well as short-term placement.
Community Services in Mitchell County
Mitchell County’s community service agencies provide assistance to a variety of our residents. Mountain Opportunity Center located in Bakersville provides daily programs for the adult handicapped. Mitchell County Senior Center provides daily activities and lunch for senior citizens and also operates the County’s Meals on Wheels program. The Toe River Health District of Mitchell County Health Department offers nursing, physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, social work, and in-home aide services. The Mitchell Community Health Partnership works to promote wellness and preventative care services to the county and have been recognized as a “Champion of Change” in North Carolina Medicine.
